Long-Time IMA Board Member Leaves Lasting Legacy

Robert (Bob) Kersey, who headed American Lawn Mower Company (Muncie), Great States Corporation (Shelbyville) and Rochester Metal Products (Rochester) for more than 50 years, passed away on August 22, 2026.

Bob was a long-time, dedicated supporter of the Indiana Manufacturers Association and Indiana's manufacturing community. He attended DePauw University and graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1957 with a degree in Economics and Engineering.

Bob began his career as a draftsman in San Diego, CA, then joined the Army, and eventually headed back to Muncie, Indiana, where he began working in the family business. In 1965, Bob became president of all three aforementioned companies until 2017, when he retired from American Lawn Mower/Great States Corporation and stayed on as CEO at Rochester Metals Products until the age of 88, and remained Chairman of the Board until age 91.

Bob's son, Michael, took the helm at ALM/Great States upon his father's departure in 2017. Rochester Metals was transferred to an ESOP in 2012 to maintain and protect its local operations.

Under Bob and his father's leadership, all 3 companies joined the IMA in 1957. In 2024, the IMA honored Bob with its Lifetime Achievement Award for his many years of services to both the IMA and many other causes.

We are grateful for Bob's long-time service and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family.
