Inkfree News - General Motors is investing in its Bedford, Indiana, manufacturing operations to expand production of 8-speed and 10-speed transmissions used in the automaker’s trucks and SUVs.

Construction and equipment installation are set to begin immediately, with expanded production expected to reach full capacity in 2027. The investment is expected to strengthen the long-term stability of about 600 jobs at the Bedford facility, though no increase in headcount is planned.

The Bedford plant produces aluminum die-cast components used in engines, transmissions, electric vehicle drive housings and structural applications. Components manufactured at the facility are used in several GM vehicles, including the Chevrolet Silverado and Traverse, GMC Sierra and Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade.

The latest investment follows a multimillion-dollar expansion announced about four years ago for additional manufacturing upgrades.

Plant leadership characterized the latest investment as a sign of confidence in Bedford employees and their manufacturing capabilities, as well as a boost for the surrounding community.

GM ranks among Indiana’s major employers, with operations and thousands of workers in multiple communities across the state.

Nationally, GM expects to invest about $9 billion in its U.S. manufacturing network in 2026.
