About the event
The Trump Administration has only been in office for a brief period but has created a lot of uncertainty that has clouded the U.S. economic outlook. While the U.S. economy entered 2025 on firm footing, GDP growth is set to cool further due to the lagged impact of the rapid increase in interest rates engineered by the Federal Reserve to lower runaway inflation. Indeed, real GDP growth slowed from an annualized pace of around 3.0% in the second and third quarters of last year to 2.3% in the fourth quarter. This presentation will cover the outlook for U.S. economic growth, the still-solid labor market, consumer spending (which is approximately two-thirds of GDP), the expected path of interest rates and other topics. From there, the presentation will pivot to a brief outlook for Indiana with a specific focus on the interest rate-sensitive manufacturing sector, including the potential impact of proposed tariffs.
