Action Needed: Contact Your State Senator to Oppose New Prescription Drug Mandate

Attention IMA Members!

The IMA is committed to lowering health care costs for Indiana manufacturers and employees. We are writing to urge you to contact your state senator and express your opposition to Senate Bill 140. This bill, which deals with pharmacy benefits, contains language that could negatively impact your business and employees by mandating a new fee to be charged for most prescriptions.

Specifically, we are concerned with the language in SB 140 that states that reimbursement cannot be less than the pharmacy's acquisition cost for the prescription drug, plus a $10.48 fee. Initial analysis predicts that this new fee will cost Hoosiers at least $100 million per year.

This mandated dispensing fee will lead to increased costs for your health plans and ultimately for your employees. It removes the ability for plans to negotiate competitive rates, driving up your healthcare expenses. We believe this provision in SB 140 goes too far and will ultimately harm employers and employees in Indiana.

We urge you to contact your state senator as soon as possible to express your opposition to SB 140. You can find your state senator's contact information HERE.

Please emphasize the negative impact the mandated dispensing fee language will have on your business and your employees' health care costs.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this critical issue.

Sincerely,

Andrew Berger

President/CEO
